Spring Break Fun

Notice the winter coats and flip flops on the beach!
Dearest Joshua and Luke,

This was our first spring break ever, and it was loads of fun!  Although the weather was far from perfect for a beach vacation, the fun, and relaxation made up for it all.

We arrived on Hilton Head Island to cold and rainy weather.  After listening to an orientation of the Island, we set out for collecting shells at Mitchelville Beach.  There were seashells and remnants of sea animals all over the shoreline.  Luke found a scallop and Dad found a mussel.  We added to our shell collection from this beach almost every day.  We were also very fond of the Coligany Park Beach.  It was beautiful!  You two enjoyed building sand castles, chasing sea gulls, talking to other families, and soaking in the sun. We also visited the Disco very Coastal Museum, and saw live oak trees that were three hundred years old!

Luke and Dad fishing in the intercoastal waterway.
At the resort, we met a nice young man named Mr. Josh (Great name, too!) He told us that his name was actually "Yoshua" which translates to Joshua, and is Hebrew for Jesus. He was the person in charge of all the activities at the resort.  Needless to say, we got to know Mr. Josh very well this week.  You two made crab catchers, seashell gel candles, and decorated sun hats and a flower pot.  Mr. Josh also showed you how to grill apple crisps and make smores at a bonfire.  You went kayaking with Dad, and came super close to dolphins in the water.I truly think the dolphins heard your sweet voices in the kayak, and came closer to you to see you!  At least I got to see the dolphins before I sneaked away to go shopping at the outlet malls.

The boys built the sand castle in the front of the picture, but it was too much fun not to take a picture of the sand castle that we found before we started!

Did I mention that the indoor pool was a big highlight for you as well?  In fact, you both met a new friend, Sam from North Carolina.  You both enjoyed swimming with him and finding out that you all liked playing Pokemon on the DS!  A few trades were even made!

Dad was very helpful with putting chicken necks on the crab catchers for bait.                 (Mom was taking the picture.)
Dad went on a chartered fishing trip while we enjoyed time at the beach.  You two played shuffleboard, and tried catching crabs with your crab catchers.  The crabs were not biting that particular day, but it was certainly fun using your crab catchers to try!

Dad and the boys kayaking.  YES, there is a dolphin swimming to the right of the kayak!
This was a very enjoyable trip for our family.  It was not exactly what we were expecting for our spring break, but I would not have traded one day of it for anything else.  Besides enjoying each day with my family, I discovered how much I enjoyed NOT waking up to an alarm each day!  Wow!  What a fantastic spring break!

Here were your favorites from the week:

Luke:
